The Aquarium opens 365 days a year. The opening hours sometimes vary, and the Aquarium provides a schedule of special opening times. Tickets are sold until 30 minutes before closing time.

How to get there

If you are driving via I-20, use  I-20 West and exit at 56B Spring/Windsor Street. Join Spring Street on the right then turn to Marietta Street NW. Finally, Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd on the right and you will see the parking deck on the right.

If you use the MARTA train, alight at the CNN Center Station . From there you will walk for about 10-15 minutes to get to the Aquarium. You can also board a bus at the Civic Center MARTA bus station.

FAQ

Can I carry snacks to the aquarium?
No. The Aquarium forbids any kind of food from outside. However, there are places to eat in the aquarium such as the food court, Café Aquaria and the Seaside Delights counter.
Can my dog come along?
As a general rule, pets are not allowed in the aquarium. However, guide/service dogs for the blind/people with disabilities and working dogs in training are allowed.
If I cancel, will I get a refund?
The Aquarium will not give you a refund if you cancel. However, you can change the dates on the ticket, but this must be done at least 24 hours before the date of the reservation. The rescheduling is done at a minimal processing fee.
Is photography allowed?
Yes, the Aquarium allows taking of photographs and videos for personal use. There are, however, some animals at the Aquarium that are very sensitive to light. The exhibits with these animals are marked with a no flash photography sign. Do not use a flash when you photograph those animals. For commercial photographs, you will need written permission by the Aquarium’s Public relations department.
How big is the aquarium?
The Georgia Aquarium is over 600,000 square feet and contains approximately 10 million gallons of fresh and salt water. It is estimated that it takes approximately 2-4 hours to view the entire Aquarium.
Is it safe in the aquarium?
One of the ways in which the Georgia Aquarium ensures the safety of its guests is its No Weapons policy. Firearms, knives and other weapons are not allowed inside the Aquarium. The Aquarium created this policy to eliminate the danger posed by armed people to guests, staff and animals. This policy is enforced by the Aquarium
Is smoking allowed?
No. Smoking is strictly forbidden anywhere inside or outside the Aquarium, which includes the entrance plaza, ticket booth area, and the parking deck. There are no smoking zones.

The Aquanaut
The Aquanaut adventure is a series of entertaining challenges in the Aquarium’s upper levels that are both informative and exciting. There are seven different challenges, and if you complete five, you will become a certified Georgia Aquarium Aquanaut/Scientist. The Aquanaut Adventure gives you an opportunity experience the thrill as you learn, as opposed to just passively watching.
Dive with Whale Sharks
The Georgia Aquarium offers the opportunity to dive and have a close up experience with whale sharks. The dive comes with an extra cost of $ 279.95 for members and $ 333.95 for non-members. This extra cost includes equipment, certificate of participation, exclusive t-shirt, and souvenir photo. The dive takes place daily at 3 p.m. with an additional dive on weekends at 11 a.m. You will also get to view some behind-the-scenes areas of Georgia Aquarium and if you arrive before time, you will experience the AT&T Dolphin Celebration presentation. The Aquarium requires that participants be at least 12 old, have Open Water SCUBA certification, and have program liability waiver and animal interactive program guidelines signed and dated prior to participating in the program (children’s waiver and program guidelines should be signed by their parents/legal guardian). Children under the age of 18 should be accompanied by participating adults.
Sleep under the Sea
The Georgia Aquarium offers sleepovers throughout the year. The 2018 sleepovers include admission to the Aquarium on the day of your sleepover and the next day, entrance to all presentations, breakfast, guided tours and activities, and a sleeping spot in front of one of the Aquarium’s magnificent gallery windows. There is no dinner in the 2018 sleepovers, but there is a snack at bedtime. Because sleepovers are popular, the Aquarium encourages all guests to make reservations at least one month in advance. In other words, all sleepovers must be reserved and paid in full at least 30 days before the desired sleepover date.

Centennial Olympic Park
While still in Atlanta, you can visit the Centennial Olympic Park. This is a public park park located about 0.1 miles from the Georgia Aquarium. It opens daily from 7am to 11pm, including holidays. The Fountain of Rings interactive fountain is the main attraction at the park, and it features computer-controlled lights and jets of water synchronized with music played from speakers in light towers surrounding it. The park hosts a free lunchtime concert series known as Music at Noon. It features pop, blues, rock, country, jazz and R&B, all performed by local artists. There are also evening concerts on Wednesdays from 5pm.

College Football Hall of Fame
The College Football Hall of Fame is a museum that immortalises college football. It is also located adjacent to the Centennial Olympic Park, contains approximately 50,000 square feet of exhibit and event space and interactive displays. It also has a 45-yard indoor football field. The Hall has historic and contemporary memorabilia and interactive multi-media displays. The Hall also features children’s activities. There is a theater with an ultra-high-definition film and unique spaces for special events and activities.
