Opening hours

The Top of the Rock is open every day of the year. It generally opens at 8am until midnight. The only exceptions are Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve when it closes at 10pm and New Year’s Day when it opens at 10am until 12.30am.

The last elevator goes up one hour before closing.

How to get there

Car- you are strongly advised against driving due to congestion and lack of parking opportunities.

Subway- Take the B, D, F or M train to the 47th-50th Street Rockefeller Centre stop.

Subway and Walk- take the 1 train to the 50th Street stop, then walk east on 50th Street to the Rockefeller Centre between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Take the 6 train to the 51st Street stop, then walk east on 50th Street until you get to the Rockefeller centre as above. Take the N, Q or R train to the 49th Street stop then walk east on the 49th Street until you reach the Rockefeller Centre.

Buses- North/South direction, take any of the M1, M2, M3, M4, M5 or M7 to the stop on 50th Street. East/West direction, take the M50 bus to the stop between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.

How much does a ticket cost?
Adult tickets cost $36, Children aged 6-12 cost $30 and seniors aged 62+ cost $34. Children aged below 6 are free. Sunset is the most popular time to visit and sunset tickets cost an additional $10. A VIP Access ticket gives you immediate entry, priority on the elevator and an expedited security check, tickets for this service cost $85. (All the above prices are subject to tax being added).
How long can I stay on the Observation Deck?
During the opening hours there is no time limit on how long you stay. The average time taken for a visit is from 45 minutes to one hour.
Can I visit the mezzanine level exhibit after I have visited the observation deck?
The exhibit can only be viewed before visiting the observation deck due to the direction of the crowd flow.
Is the Top of the Rock open during inclement weather?
The observation deck remains open whatever the weather. Some parts may be closed for reasons of safety. You will be advised about the weather prior to entry. You cannot get a refund due to inclement weather although you are able to exchange your ticket for a later time or date.
Do I have to buy tickets in advance or can I buy them on arrival?
You are advised to buy your tickets in advance, although it is not a requirement. You can buy your tickets online up to 30 minutes prior to the time of your visit. Shorter time periods than that then tickets must be purchased at the ticket office.
What if I am delayed and arrive after my time slot?
All tickets are honoured on the same day, you will be given space in the next available time slot. Should you arrive early and there are spaces available you may be offered an earlier time slot than you were scheduled for.
Do I need to print my tickets?
All you need is the QR code on your phone as part of the confirmation email or the credit card you used to purchase your tickets and bring them with you to the ticket office.

Tripods and Professional Video Cameras
Tripods and professional video cameras are not permitted on the observation deck. If you wish to shoot a professional film or photos you must first complete the request form for such purpose.
What does the security check involve, what items are forbidden?
The security check is in place to ensure the safety of both staff and other visitors to the attraction. This includes the use of a metal detector as well as a visual check of any bags you may be carrying. Forbidden items include weapons and knives of any type, lighters, glass bottles and any flammable substances. Other forbidden items relating to the enjoyment of others include musical instruments, amplifiers and speakers.
Taking food and beverages onto the observation deck
Food and beverages are not permitted on the observation deck.
Finding the entrance to Top of the Rock
The main entrance is easy to find, it is located on 50th Street between the Fifth and Sixth Avenues. You should look out for the big red carpet. This marks the entrance and is on the southern side of the street. There is also a second entrance on the concourse level.
Timed ticketing
A timed ticketing system is in place at the Top of the Rock. When you purchase your ticket online you can select the date and time that best suits your visit. If you are unsure of the date or time then you can purchase an unscheduled ticket, this must then be exchanged for a timed ticket at the ticket office on your arrival. Due to how busy the attraction is this may result in a delay for you until an available slot is available.
Three decks for you to explore
The first deck includes the gift shop before taking the elevator up to the second level known as the Breezeway. This is entirely outside. The third level is the observation deck, located on the 70th floor. It is an open air roof deck, free of any glass enclosures making it the perfect place to take unobstructed photos of the views around you.

The enormous 13th century Gothic style Saint Patrick’s Cathedral is located on Madison Avenue in New York City. It has a seating capacity of 2,200, a rose window measuring 26 feet across its diameter and a pipe organ that contains 7,380 pipes. Outside the twin spires rise 330 feet into the city skyline. You should allow yourself about an hour to visit. It is free to visit, although you are welcome to leave a donation.
FDNY Fire Zone
The Fire Department of New York City is one of the worlds most famous. In Midtown on West 51st Street they have a fabulous place where you can learn about the work they do, your kids can climb aboard a fire truck, put on one of the famous coats and learn how to put out a fire. The centre is a state of the art fire safety centre of learning. It is operated by the FDNY Foundation in association with the New York City Fire Dept. From the store you can buy official clothing and other souvenirs.
